Old & new across the parking lot
Buying peaches inside
I took my K-5 with us when we went to the market this morning. On previous trips I had taken my Fuji X100. I wanted to see how the K-5 with the 18 – 55 mm lens performed inside and I learned something. Don’t take the K-5 to market even though it performs quite well technically.
My problem was that I noticed some people ducking out of the view of the camera. I never had that happen with the X100. I hadn’t taken but a couple of pictures when one of the women working in a near-by booth came out and asked me what I was doing. She wanted to know if I was a journalist. After I told her I wasn’t, that I had a web site and that I liked to take interesting pictures, she went back to her booth and proceeded to tell others in the booth that it was OK. It made me wonder what she would have said if I was a journalist. I also wondered what it would have been like if I had my longer 55 – 300 mm lens on the camera. Would people have hit the floor?
Lesson learned: Take the X100 in “silent mode” the next time I’m taking pictures around lots of people.
PS, at least I get to look forward to a peach pie tomorrow.
