We just had a light dusting of snow yesterday. I took the above pictures early in the morning just because I could, and because I didn’t have anything else to photograph.
It has been cold, dark, and dreary, and windy too, so I haven’t been going far in search of pictures. I took these pictures just a few steps from my front door … as far as I went.
One of my approaches to find what I prefer to photograph is to take different pictures and not to try to take better pictures. Not being a creative person it is hard for me to see that which is different and I find that I need to get away from my training as an engineer to make them better. Better is the enemy of different.

Engineers are by nature and inclination very creative people, in my opinion. So you really mustn’t say you aren’t creative. It is always a good decision to place limitations against which to operate, and within which to explore what presents itself. You have done this, and found some rather beautiful and subtle textures. This was a successful outing, even tho so very close to home. G

John, you reminded me to revisit two of my favorite quotations related to creative expression. I’ve found these immensely reassuring when I’m feeling blocked or hopelessly inadequate in my own work.
“Use what talents you possess; the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best.” – Henry Van Dyke
“A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.” – Chinese Proverb

You have captured wonderful textures in the snow, and the cloud pic is beautiful. I never tire of watching God’s sky, or the beauty of nature. I follow a photographer who does many pics of the sky in northern Canada, and animals like the moose, beaver and cariboo.
